PDF PAGE NUMBERS
Give every page a clear place in the document.
Add page numbers to a PDF without rebuilding the document. Choose the numbering format, placement, starting number, appearance, and pages that should receive the numbers.
HOW IT WORKS
Add numbering directly to the PDF pages.
Upload a PDF, configure the numbering, preview the result, and generate a new numbered PDF. The original document stays separate from the generated file.
Upload
Select the PDF you want to number.
Customize
Choose the format, position, style, and pages.
Export
Create and download the numbered PDF.
NUMBERING FORMATS
Choose how the page number should read.
Different documents call for different numbering styles. Use a simple number for a minimal look, or include the page context when the document needs it.
Number
A clean numeric format such as 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Page number
Adds the word “Page” before the current page number.
Number / total
Shows the current page together with the document total.
Page X of Y
A more descriptive format that explicitly shows the page and total.
PAGE POSITION
Put the number where it belongs.
Choose from six positions around the page. The number is placed using the margin you specify, so it can sit closer to or farther away from the document edge.
CUSTOMIZATION
Make the numbering fit the document.
Page numbers should feel like part of the document, not something added afterward. Adjust the visual settings until they sit naturally alongside the existing content.
Font size
Choose the size of the page number, from small document labels to larger numbers designed to stand out.
Margin
Control the distance between the page number and the edge of the PDF page.
Opacity
Reduce the opacity when the number needs to remain subtle around existing page content.
Color
Choose a color that works with the typography and visual style of the original document.
STARTING NUMBER
Example
01 / 12
The starting number determines the number assigned to the beginning of the document's numbering sequence.
NUMBERING CONTROL
Start numbering wherever you need.
The starting number can be changed when the PDF is part of a larger document, when front matter uses a different numbering system, or when the existing document needs to continue an established sequence.
PAGE SELECTION
Number the whole document or only the pages you need.
You can apply numbering to every page or specify a custom set of pages using individual numbers and ranges.
Number the entire PDF
Use this when the document should have continuous numbering from beginning to end.
Target specific pages
Enter ranges such as 1-3, 5, 8-10 when only selected pages should receive numbers.
UNDER THE HOOD
What happens to the PDF?
The original PDF is loaded and its pages are inspected so the tool can determine the document size and total page count.
For each page selected for numbering, the tool calculates the appropriate text position from the chosen page location, margin, font size, and the width of the generated number.
The page number is then drawn onto the selected PDF page using the chosen color and opacity.
The completed document is exported as a separate PDF with -numbered.pdf added to the original filename.
